... as the reason why Regensburg is mentioned only a capable and motivated team on site. Apparently someone is working hard, which is of course very commendable.
The way it is communicated, the other potential organizers were probably looking for quick cash. Which in the end it is, as long as the currently booming triathlon trend continues, a race with the Ironman label means the same thing as milking the famous gold donkey at home in the cellar. Although the potential for a second Ironman in Germany is only seen with around 1500 starters, I am sure that the race will be fully booked within a short time and that there will ultimately be more people at the start line than the aforementioned number.
If it is really true that all other applicants were unsuitable, it is a shame that they did not go a little further north or east. A huge event like this enlivens the local scene to an incredible extent. When I think of Roth / Nuremberg, there are no more cyclists here, only triathletes! It is clear that, in my opinion, only places that can show a selective bike route come into question, everything else will just be a huge suck! (Slipstream driving 😉
Nonetheless, I am of course happy that it is right here near me
In spite of everything, there seem to be a few sport policy considerations to have been included. The Challenge Roth would have been Kurt Denk's preferred candidate, it is clear why he leaned against it. A worldwide challenge series is currently being set up. This series is also booming at the moment, so why join forces with the Frankfurters? Mergers and downsizing only happen in bad economic times.
Should one see an Ironman in Regensburg as a “full broadside” against the Challenge Roth? There are at least two reasons for this close geographical location and the date, the first week of August. A double start is made impossible.
Why not put the date on the first or second week of September? The weather is usually even better than in August. Triathlon technology is already dead in this period, the Hawaii qualification would be for the coming year, all participants would have to train all summer and would not have to scrub the foundation in the cold March. If you want, you can also risk a double start in July and September, 8 weeks between the events are usually enough.
Another question that still concerns me, where do the 50 qualifying places come from? It is well known that the transition area on the pier in Kona (Hawaii) luckily only offers space for a maximum of 1800 starters and is already full to the last seat. Accordingly, the majority of the places will probably come from other European Ironman.
so, enough heavy thought for this morning, let's go!

Hello,
but someone has thought about it. I see it with one laughing and one crying eye. Laughing because I consider the region around Regensburg to be the most beautiful in Germany in terms of length, crying - because the north of Germany is probably one of the most demanding regions in Germany in terms of triathlon technology. Wind, hilly terrain (yes, the ice age was also in the north) and not perfect road surfaces. I think anyone who has already participated in the Ostseeman and has brought the 1000 meters of altitude behind them on the bike course knows what I am talking about. I can only advise everyone to come to the north and train here.
Best regards from Ratzeburg

Hi Tobi,
I agree with you on many things, only with the bad road surface you don't exactly attract people Leute
Many greetings
