first form test successful! 1:17:46

At the end of my three-week training block, I was at the start of the 21.1km Obermain Half Marathon today. The last few days have been quite exhausting and luckily we were invited to a party with Denise and Thorsten yesterday evening, where I was able to cram some real carbohydrates into myself for the morning run 😉

In the morning, shortly after seven, we drove off with the car to arrive at around 8 o'clock in the freezing cold (4 degrees) Bad Staffelstein. Fortunately, shortly before I died of coldness in my little running shirt, it started at 8:45 am with over 1000 starters. All of a sudden, we were all warm up very quickly! With horror I had to realize that we started the first few kilometers far too fast, about 3:30 pace. Then I had to slow down the young wild Frank, with whom I ran together.

Shortly afterwards the fog finally disappeared and gave way to a wonderful sunny day. So at least I didn't take my sunglasses with me for nothing. At km 10 we went through in 36:59, about one minute below plan. At the latest there I had to find out, "Krelli, you're in a good mood today" 😉

Frank unfortunately had to tear something off and I was on my own. At 15 km I had a little sag, my stomach rumbled a bit. It was probably the three servings of chili con carne at the party last night ...
After a little sip of Coke I was able to keep up the pace for the last few kilometers and finish in 13th with a new best time of 1:17:46, I even think I was the fastest tria 😉
(my old HM best time from last year was 1:23:08)

Overjoyed, I waited in the finish channel for Frank, who, however, shouldn't disappoint me and finished the race directly after me with 1:19:30!

Incidentally, the first was the 2007 German marathon champion, Phillip Büttner (Ratz), at 2:20 hours.
The way it went crazy today, I only saw him at the start for 2 seconds, then he was over the mountains, in the end he was almost in the shower when I rolled in, his winning time yesterday 1: 09 ...

It was really cool that my friend even stood on her crutches on the side of the road to cheer and two club colleagues from the Bamberg TriRockets also gave a lot of help.

a detailed race report, including some funny anecdotes from yesterday, can be found here tri-mag.de:

After a great lunch and a little nap, I cycled the 3.5 hour long way back to Nuremberg.
Now put your feet up for a few days and chill and on April 26th. at the start of the Sulzbach / Rosenberg Duathlon !!

refresh yourself well!

  1. Congratulations on your peak time. In fact, it was significantly faster than you planned. If you continue like this, the three-hour mark in Roth will also fall.
Have a good rest until next weekend.
    Bye for now

  2. Hello Michael,

congratulations on the new record! Isn't the year going to be a good start?

Yesterday I was in Switzerland to visit the bike course for the 70.3 there and can only say: oh oh! 🙂 I just hope I just had bad legs yesterday 🙂

    greetings from Munich
    Dennis

  3. Hi Dennis,

don't worry, rested and on race day it's a completely different feeling. You have never flown so fast over the Swiss mountains! 🙂

    How is the preparation going?

    Many greetings

    Michael

  4. It runs well in its own right. The best times are in swimming, and running is also going down quite well at the moment. Bike is always the hardest I find it to be.

In the first week of May I treat myself to another week of home training camp in Cologne and then finally the first competitions are on (10.5. Duathlon in Planegg, 24.5. Sprint triathlon in Munich) and then the 7.6. come in Switzerland! 🙂

Hope everything goes according to plan for Roth too?

  5. How much is much 😉 1-2 kg or rather 5-10kg?
Have you changed your focus between the disciplines lately?
If it's a lot more than usual, maybe see a doctor and have a blood test checked
