4th place at the Triathlon Kallmünz

Below you can see Thorsten at the swim exit ... I just had to take this picture of him, take a look at it. It's a picture for the gods;)))
My photo wasn't half as good. Either he just ran into a nail or was pissed off because his club colleague, the krelli, swam faster today !! 🙂 -> just click to enlarge

On Saturday the triathlon in Kallmünz started! Seventeen degrees warm water attracted around 500 triathletes in the bright sunshine to the beautiful village on the mountain.
Among them also some from the distant Nuremberg; Thorsten, Simon, Michael and yours truly. In addition, all the girls from the boys were also at the start, but on the sprint distance taking place at the same time, Denise, Jana and Susi.

Here are the results:

(The cycling time includes both changes and before the swimming time taking another 300m had to be run)

Swimming
At 2 p.m. sharp the start was on the short distance, 1.5 km swimming, 42 km cycling and finally 10 km running. The swimming took place in the Naab, once against the current to the turning buoy and the same way back with the current. Strangely enough, we in Nuremberg all met in the same place before swimming. Namely at the edge of the river 😉 The attentive current expert will know that the current is lowest on the bank. Fortunately, most of the starting field was probably not aware of this, as we were quite alone at the edge.
The starting gun was fired and off we went again 😉

Out of the corner of my eye I saw that our strategy was a complete success, although I'm really not a dolphin in the water, so shortly after the reversible buoy I was fourth in the entire field (that I was able to experience that again in the water !!). As soon as I turned, I steered into the middle of the river. Swimming at the edge was over, now on the way back the current couldn't be strong enough! Alone I swam towards the exit. Shortly before the end, I started here for the first time today, I let the man behind me pass, who then showed me the correct way to get out.

The bicyling
When comparing the cycling times to the previous year, it became apparent that the times were much slower today. Above all, this was due to the strong headwind on the route. Despite everything, I felt right at home on the bike and began to “sit down” my time. In between, not much happened, except that Ralf Preissl and finally Steffen Sachs overtook me. Before that, I had already overtaken one or two others and found myself in the transition area in fourth, with a good gap to fifth.

I had two minor problems due to my lack of track knowledge, but this was not too tragic. Right at the beginning I wanted to turn off the official route because I saw a white arrow, only the courageous intervention of the spectators saved my day. The next time I was almost blown into the ditch when I raced down the steepest mountain on the route with eighty things and suddenly the strongest cross wind turned my disc into a sail 😉

The running
At first I didn't really move. The third ran in front of me, but somehow I couldn't close the gap. Maybe I exaggerated a little on the bike 😉

In any case, fortunately, the turning point came at some point directly after a somewhat longer climb. I saw that I wouldn't catch up with the third person today and at the same time that the distance to my people behind me, including my club colleague Thorsten, was big enough, namely about 45sec-1min. I was really happy about it because I couldn't have run much faster.

But that almost turned out to be my undoing, and it won't happen to me again. During the last crossing of the bridge and the subsequent curve, I looked back again and saw nothing 200m behind me. So I was looking forward to crossing the finish line. What I did not know, immediately afterwards "the pack" came after me !! 😉

I only noticed this directly after the finish, when Thorsten patted me on the shoulder shortly afterwards ... man oh man, he had made good on me for a whole minute over the last five kilometers and almost caught up with me! All hats off before such a split, he had therefore passed seven runners.

so, here are my splits:
Fourth overall;
Swimming 22 minutes, cycling 1:07, running 37 minutes (rounded down when in doubt 😉

From Monday I will start the last two hard weeks of training for the Challenge Roth !! I think the speeds are right, I just have to train a little more. Then I think that I am well on the way to my goal, the Sub9!

skin in !!
