The "Minimax" principle - Part I.

Above in the picture you can see Steffen. At that time he had a lot to celebrate, his second place (AG25) at the Ironman South Africa and the first Hawaiiquali AND the fact that he snatched the qualification from under my nose with his second place !! Steffen you pig !! 🙂 I was fourth in the race at the time and the qualification went up to third place.
Well, a long time ago, forgiven and forgotten ...
Incidentally, Steffen is a phenomenon, he can drink three times as much beer as I can and survive a competition the next day more or less healthy. During his break from the season he also likes to take 10 kilos! and doesn't move a meter for two months. He has such a sunny disposition that I'm more nervous than he is before his competitions. Steffen doesn't believe in replacement hoses in competition! In his opinion, the race was over anyway ... Not to mention your own food! He would also have a sausage sandwich with a potato salad if someone offered him at the refreshment point. He does it that way himself, at major Ironman races for which he has been preparing for months.
So if I'm not sweating blood and water because Steffen is leaving brand new shoes in his transition area and wants to compete in the marathon with them, even though he has not run a meter with this model, then I am completely thrilled with his performance ...
When it comes to "the sausage" and his material holds up, you can always count on Steffen.
Then he already runs an 8:52, like in Cologne this year.
You can argue about his training methodology, training until you get sick ... where he seems to be doing everything right, however, is when building up his training.
In order to achieve his top position and time in Cologne, he trained an average of 12 hours and never more than 16 hours a week. Wow, with such a "small" week that is comparable to others, to lay down such times is impressive!
In the next few days I'll sit down and study his plans, then I can post my analysis here as well. I think one or the other will be interested in it ...

stay tuned until next time!
