Captain Chaos on the road again ...

Hi girls and boys,

have you always wanted to know how a professional prepared for the Ironman Florida?
And here I don't mean hanging around in great hotels, invitations to banquets and gala evenings, no, here I mean stories that real life writes:

My buddy Steffen, aka Captain Chaos (you'll soon see why this name), starts in just under two weeks at Ironman Florida. Above in the picture from 2007 it can be seen quite well, the target time has been inserted manually because the professional time was still running on the clock back then and it had already started a quarter of an hour earlier.

Three weeks ago he set out on the plane in the direction of the American south. He is now completely starved and suffers from insomnia, why should he?

Here is his report:
"Still alive.
Doesn't everything go around here. I'm in Alabama right now.

As most people know, I've been living in the car for 3 weeks. I flew to Florida to do the IM there.
Unfortunately, America is a little different than expected. Biggest problem:
you are not allowed to park overnight anywhere. I've been woken up by the cops and driven away four times because of that, three times by local residents. A couple of times I tried to sleep in a swamp. Unfortunately there were so many mosquitoes that I have more bites than skin today. A few nights it was so warm that the broth ran down my head and the last four nights I was so frozen in the car that the car shook.

The other nights:
Once someone started mowing the lawn next to the car at three at night, twice someone came with a leaf blower and two other times someone next to the car started to skate and play baseball.
You can imagine how the training goes with so little sleep. I've got used to the pain in my foot by now, but now I have problems with my groin. I always need half an hour after cycling until I can jog normally.

So it can be fun.
Oh yes, and I haven't found a 25 or 50m pool in any city yet. Although I sometimes drove 100km detour. (They always have 25 feet or 16 m pools here).
The sea is also not so good, because I always rub my neck with the Neo and now have big grinders that don't heal.
Of course, I don't eat noodles as planned, since I don't have anything to cook with.
Instead, always dry bread with cheap sausage and a few Twix. And the cheap drinks here taste like ass. Pooh!

All of this leads to the fact that I have more edges than eyes, can rattle around for three hours a day and the bike is still defective. I hope they can fix it with the IM.
There are no internet shops either. And here in the library it's so slow that I have to break up again.
I can't charge my cell phone anywhere.
Conclusion: since I've been here, I haven't eaten warm and slept or trained well.

Then it has to be a great competition.

See you…

You see, everything is on target !! The others must be on November 7th. Dress warmly, because Steffen always achieved his best competitions after absolutely shitty preparations. And he likes to moan πŸ™‚

enjoy yourself!

  1. Yes, you're right ... sometimes I have my concerns.

I can't tell the most amazing stories here, with Steffen I stopped wondering what he was doing for a long time πŸ˜‰

I imagine this on the morning of November 7th. So funny, all professionals come to the start 15 minutes earlier, well rested and relaxed from the hotel room. And then the door of the van opens while everyone walks by and who comes out and looks like they are whacked? The Steffen. Then he nicely packs his bike out of the car and locks everything, because he has a long day ahead of him. But where does he actually hide his car key? Maybe he'll take it with him πŸ™‚

    greetings
